Inspired by a Rick Steve’s episode, we found ourselves at The Victoria, a place steeped in legend. Rumor has it Queen Victoria herself once stopped in for a pint, and they named the place in her honor. Talk about a royal endorsement!
We arrived on a late Thursday evening and were pleasantly surprised by the lively atmosphere at 10PM. As newcomers to English culture, we were initially stumped by the lack of table service. But a quick trip to the bar sorted us out, and soon we were sipping on an ESB, a Tiny Rebel, and a hot chocolate.
The interior was a delight, exactly the kind of ambiance we were hoping for. If only we’d noticed the sign explaining the ordering process sooner. Live and learn!
