On a spontaneous early-Friday afternoon, we found ourselves venturing into the world of mochi at Mochinut, nestled in a strip mall near the Denver-Aurora border. The interior was a burst of joy, a welcoming embrace of happy decor that had us buzzing with anticipation. Alas, the staff didn’t quite match our high spirits, but no matter, we were on a mission!
Our order? A smorgasbord of 9 mochi donuts, featuring the chocolate churro, tiramisu, strawberry, and regular churro flavors. The strawberry was the belle of the ball, a delightful burst of flavor that had us swooning. The churro variants held their own, while the tiramisu, though beautifully presented, was a bit of a wallflower – all dough, no dance.
Now, here’s a quirky Mochinut rule: donuts must be ordered in trios. We wanted 7, but had to settle for 9. The total came to around $30-35 – a bit of a splurge, but hey, we were on an adventure!
But the pièce de résistance? The cheddar-mozzarella ‘corn dog’ wrapped in fried potatoes. That culinary masterpiece was a taste sensation (hotdog optional)!
Would we return? Absolutely, but we’d probably save it for when we’re in the neighborhood rather than making the 25-minute trek. Mochinut, you were a delight, quirks and all!
Moses recommends Mochinut, but suggests saving it for those times when you find yourself wandering through the desert, I mean, Denver-Aurora area craving something sweet & savory. Happy mochi munching!
