On a sleepy Sunday, we rose to mingle with the spectral residents of the old Queen Mary (Permanently moored in Long Beach, since ~1967). If any major updates and renovations were made around the ship, they are spot on. It really felt like a Time Machine. Great work!
The plans for our visit consisted of a bite to eat, a couple drinks, then embark on the “Haunted Ghost Tour”. Pro Tip 1: booking the Haunted Ghost Tour in advance was key; no lines, just straight-up supernatural access.
Arriving early, we stepped into the bar at the ship’s prow, finding ourselves the sole patrons in what felt like a time warp to the roaring ‘20s. With cocktails in hand, we sampled the corned beef sliders and pretzel bites – a culinary haunt so good it’s spooky. Pro Tip 2: Dip those sliders in the pretzel’s cheesy sauce; it’s a taste of the afterlife! Moses gave his silent nod of approval as we sipped and savored.
The tour was a spine-tingling stroll through shadowed corridors and tales of yore (ok, that might be more dramatic than reality). Our guide did a good job of telling stories. She was definitely a mix of a hopeful believer and an optimistic skeptic.
A real-deal, ghost experience came to life when we entered the fire suppression exhibit. Suddenly, our noses were tickled by an unmistakable scent of smoke – the kind you’d associate with a leisurely smoked cigar or a gentleman’s pipe. This exhibit area was newly spruced-up and renovated, far removed from any culinary fumes or designated puff zones. The sweet, out-of-place aroma piqued our curiosity. We couldn’t resist sharing our discovery with our guide.
Turns out, this very spot used to be a smoking room for the less-fancy travelers back in the day. Were we catching a whiff of a bygone era, or did we brush shoulders with a specter still lingering in its favorite haunt? Our guide played along with a polite chuckle, though her eyes screamed skepticism. Nonetheless, the experience left us with a fun story, and a potential encounter with a ghostly smoker of yesteryears!
Whether it was a brush with a bygone era or a playful spirit, the Queen Mary left us bewitched. Overall, it was a great visit. Moses, in his stoic plasticity, is all set for a return – be it in the flesh or in spirit!
