The hour before the phone
I gave the first hour of the day away for years without noticing the price.
Be someone worth being when nobody is watching.
Tend the person you are becoming. Be is rooted in stillness, honesty, discipline, faith, rest, and the character that shows up when there is nothing to gain.
This is the least photogenic of the five. It looks like going to bed on time, keeping a promise made to yourself, sitting with a feeling instead of reaching for the phone. Nobody applauds any of it.
It is also the one the other four depend on. Everything you build rests on who is doing the building.
