Make things, and finish them. Create is rooted in craft, patience, taste, repetition, and the willingness to be bad at something in public.

Most of making is maintenance: sharpening, sweeping, re-reading, starting the draft again. The interesting part is short and arrives late. People who make things regularly are not more inspired, they are more scheduled.

Finishing matters more than the idea. An unfinished thing teaches you almost nothing.

The chair that does not sit level

Four years old, still in the kitchen, still the thing I am proudest of.

Where Create leads

No practice stands alone. Each one keeps handing you off to another.

Explore

Curiosity is how you find out what anyone actually needs.

Give

Attention is the first thing you can offer anyone.

Connect

You went to see a place. What you remember is who fed you.

Be

Leaving is easier than arriving. Being still is its own country.

An invitation

Finish the smallest thing you own.

Pick the project nearest to done, give it two hours, and call it complete even if it is not perfect. Then put it where someone else can see it.
