Better to Give.

Be useful to people who cannot repay you.

Spend yourself on other people. Give is rooted in generosity, service, justice, attention, and the habit of treating your time and money as belonging partly to someone else.

Giving well is specific. A named person, a real need, an amount or an afternoon you actually have. Vague goodwill costs nothing and helps nobody, which is why it is so comfortable.

The reliable part is not the feeling. It is the calendar entry and the standing transfer.

Two hours every Thursday

Four years in, and it is the only appointment I never move.

Where Give leads

No practice stands alone. Each one keeps handing you off to another.

Connect

You went to see a place. What you remember is who fed you.

Be

Leaving is easier than arriving. Being still is its own country.

Create

Everything you make is assembled from what you have seen.

Explore

Curiosity is how you find out what anyone actually needs.

An invitation

Pick one person, not one cause.

Find a specific need this week and meet it without announcing it. Then decide whether it could become a standing commitment rather than a one-off.
